The general format for citing legal encyclopaedias (except Laws of New Zealand) is as follows:

Eg Halsbury’s Laws of England (4th ed, reissue, 1998) vol 9(1) Contract at [859].

Eg Halsbury’s Laws of England (5th ed, 2017) vol 9 Children and Young Persons at [651].

Where a reissue is being cited it is necessary to indicate that because reissues often have different ordering from the original volume. However, for the fifth edition onwards of Halsbury’s Laws of England it is unnecessary to provide any reissue information due to the way the publication is organised.
