Foundation backs constitutional conversation - based on book "Constitution Aotearoa" being launched at Parliament today

The conversation has started on a written constitution for New Zealand – and the Law Foundation is backing the discussion.

Former Prime Minister Sir Geoffrey Palmer and Dr Andrew Butler launch their book, Constitution Aotearoa, at Parliament today Wednesday 21st September, with the aim of stimulating a national constitutional debate. The book includes a draft New Zealand constitution, bringing together rules and processes of government in a single document.

The authors have proposed a modern constitution that is easy to understand, reflects New Zealand’s identity and nationhood, protects rights and liberties, and prevents governments from abusing power. Consultation on the idea will take place on their website, www.constitutionaotearoa.org.nz , and on other social media platforms.
