High Achievement for NZ's 2019 Jessup Team

The NZ Representative Team from Auckland University law school competed at the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington last month along with more than 680 other teams. This is the largest and most prestigious mooting competition in the world.

After four preliminary rounds, the team reached the knock out rounds, winning its top 32 and top 16 moots. The team reached the quarter finals, but lost to Yale in a hard-found moot. They finished in the top 8 out of all teams at the international rounds. This achievement means the team was in the best 1% of universities that participated. They also received awards for the 3rd best respondent written memorials and for the 5th best combined applicant and respondent memorials.

We congratulate team members Rachel Buckman, Yao Dong (ranked 15th best speaker), Naushyn Janah (ranked 58th best speaker), Jae Kim and Max Ashmore, and their coaches Tiaan Nelson and Sarah Wilson.

The Law Foundation provides $30,000 annually to assist the NZ representative team compete at the Jessup Competition.
