2019 NZLF Ethel Benjamin Commemorative Address, by Solicitor-General Una Jagose QC

~~~~24 OCTOBER, 2019
New Zealand’s Solicitor-General Una Jagose QC will present the annual New Zealand Law Foundation Ethel Benjamin Commemorative Address in Dunedin on 24 October.
Ethel Benjamin’s 1897 graduation speech was titled “The heart must be developed as well as the brain”. This year, Ms Jagose QC has chosen to speak on “Imagining the future Lawyer”. She plans to take a hard look at the legal profession and consider “what would Ethel say?”
The New Zealand Law Foundation Ethel Benjamin Commemorative Address is facilitated by the Otago Women Lawyers’ Society and is a celebration of the achievements of women in law and the continuing preservation and pioneering spirit of the first woman lawyer, Ethel Benjamin.
In its 23rd year, it also encourages education and achievement in the women of today and stimulates debate about issues affecting social justice and gender.
