Know Your Rights TV Series Returns

The Know Your Rights television series produced in 2012 will re-screen from 6 Feb to 1 May on Sky Channel 89 weekly on Wednesdays at 7.30pm.

Presenter, Catriona MacLennan, says the series is aimed at improving access to a range of legal information. It particularly targets those who have English as their second language or who do not have ready access to the law.

Ms MacLennan, an Auckland barrister and journalist, was instrumental in getting this 13-part series off the ground. With funding help from the New Zealand Law Foundation, the series was produced and broadcast for the first time by Triangle Television in mid-2012. In January this year the first episode was re-filmed and updated for re-screening. All other episodes remain unchanged.

The repeat screening of the series will ensure that even more people have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their fundamental legal rights.

Each programme has 2 guests who are mainly lawyers. Those who are bilingual introduce themselves and read the show’s Five Key Points in their native language. Languages include Te reo, Samoan, Tongan, Korean, Hindi and Croatian.
